Dr. Tejani's practice provides evaluation and treatment to individuals of all ages, with a focus on adolescents, young adults, and middle-aged parents. Dr. Tejani's practice provides evaluation and treatment to individuals of all ages, with a focus on adolescents, young adults, and middle-aged parents. Dr. Tejani is a Yale trained and triple board certified psychiatrist, with certification in child & adolescent psychiatry, adult psychiatry, and addiction medicine. She is a member of the teaching faculty at UCSF. Through her private practice she provides psychotherapy and other psychiatric treatments (including medication when indicated) for a wide range of psychiatric issues. She has a special interest in treating individuals with substance use disorders and mood, personality, and relationship difficulties. Dr. Tejani is trained in a wide range of psychotherapy modalities, including psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and mentalization based treatment.
In addition to ongoing psychiatric care, she offers in person or remote second opinion consultations over several appointments. For family members looking for help with a loved one's drug, alcohol or psychiatric disorder, she can provide short or long term guidance. Family member consultations include a discussion of evidence based interventions to positively alter a loved one's trajectory and motivate them to engage in treatment. All clinical consultations include an overview of treatment options available for one's condition, the potential benefits and risks of various approaches, and guidance on crafting the right personalized treatment plan.

Dr. Tejani provides a variety of non-clinical consultation services. She has served as an expert witness in court testimony. She has experience in a variety of academic and private hospital settings providing consultation and education to pediatricians, primary care physicians and therapists. She has also helped addiction treatment centers develop their clinical programming. Currently, Dr. Tejani consults to SAMHSA's Opioid Response Network, helping to develop emerging substance use disorder treatment programs for youth. Previously at UC San Diego, Dr. Tejani participated in epidemiological research investigating injection drug use behaviors and risk of acquiring infectious disease in US-Mexico border regions. During residency at Yale she participated in an international NIDA funded clinical trial investigating the use of medication combined with therapy to treat opioid use disorder.
Dr. Tejani has given talks at medical centers, national conferences, and other settings. She often speaks on the topic of youth drug and alcohol use and co-occurring disorders, with an emphasis on methods to effectively engage youth and their families to improve treatment outcomes. Additionally, she is well versed in the topics of child development, parent-child interaction, attachment, reflective functioning, and mentalization based treatment. She has given seminars on approaches to working with difficult to engage patient populations. Past audiences for these talks have included educators, policy makers, pediatric and primary care physicians, psychiatrists, master and doctoral level therapists, and the general public.
There is a spectrum of impairment related to drug or alcohol use. Dr. Tejani has extensive experience working with individuals who use varying quantities and types of substances. Sometimes these individuals want to stop their substance use entirely and other times they want to reduce their use without stopping completely. Sometimes patients are not interested in changing their substance use patterns but are trying to better understand the relationship between their substance use and their emotions, behaviors, or life challenges. Dr. Tejani can provide an in depth evaluation to help individuals or family members make better sense of the way in which substance use is affecting one's life. Dr. Tejani has completed specialized training specific to working with drug or alcohol using adolescents, young adults, and parents. She is passionate about working with these populations. She will collaborate with you or your loved one to develop a personalized treatment plan that addresses not only the substance use but also the underlying driving factors, with a focus on treating the whole person and recognizing each patient's unique presentation and treatment needs.
Dr. Tejani has substantial experience working with individuals experiencing a wide range of mood difficulties, including but not limited to: mild to severe depression, difficulty feeling content or satisfied with one's life, bipolar spectrum disorders, and borderline or other personality disorders. She has a long standing interest in working with individuals that have been labeled as "treatment-resistant" or who have struggled to find the right fit in previous treatments.
Dr. Tejani works with individuals seeking treatment for difficulties in their relationships, including romantic relationships, parent-child relationships, or friendships. In addition to individual psychotherapy and treatment. Dr. Tejani frequently works with parents to help guide parent-child interactions in a way that improves the well-being of all individuals in the family unit.
